It’s October 2025, and at Graypes we are preparing a product demo showcasing real-time smart document search, handling large documents such as books, scientific papers, or university materials, and generating one-page A4 summaries that can be instantly printed.
For this demo, we set up 7 printers (all 6–8 years old, low-cost inkjet models from HP) and connected them to 7 PCs:
📌 3 running Windows 11
📌 4 running Ubuntu 20.04
Here’s what happened:
❌ On Windows 11, we failed to connect a single printer (e.g., HP DeskJet F2400 series), even after spending over 1.5 hours troubleshooting. Problems included: missing drivers, failed installations, and malfunctioning setups when drivers were found.
✔️ On Ubuntu, every printer was detected and configured within a few minutes, smooth and effortless.
❗️ Moments like this remind me of Steve Jobs’ famous remarks about Microsoft’s lack of quality and taste in their products.
💡 For the record: I stopped using Microsoft products (or building solutions on them) back in 2008. Yet, as an engineer, I must give Microsoft credit: their shortcomings have fueled my success as a technology and cybersecurity consultant. Without Microsoft’s endless flaws, those professions might never have been as profitable.
